Cottonwood (Populus Deltoides)

A true behemoth. growing up to 120 ft tall and 5 ft in diameter when mature. It grows fast and dies young in under 200 years. To accomplish this extraordinary feat in the short growing seasons of MN, it plants itself in full sun near water. The craggy gray-brown bark wraps a towering trunk that shoots up over the competition of neighboring willows and silver maples. 

Don't be scared to plant this tree in your yard. Just keep it away from the foundation, water pipes and give some space, 30 feet or so, probably better for people with larger sites where they can plant it along a pod, creek, lake or natural area. This would be an excellent plant for commercial spaces to add instant ecological healing.
