Grower’s Choice Sand Box Kit
The Pleistocene, commonly referred to as the Ice Age lasted from c. 2.58 million to 11,700 years ago, it created gigantic ancient lakes and massive roving glaciers that molded and shaped the land we now call Minnesota. As a result, much of our land is quite sandy. If you live north or west of the Twin Cities, chances are your soil has a higher percentage of sand. When it rains the water just passes through and you probably have a lot of trouble keeping grass alive. We have just the mix for you that is composed of sand adapted grasses and flowers like milkweeds, coreopsis, asters, sunflowers, penstemons, goldenrods and legumes. Grab a shovel and a plastic sandcastle mold and dig in!
This kit requires Full Sun to Part Sun with Medium to Dry moisture conditions.
Recommended for 30 - 50 sq. ft.

The plants in your kit will be based on current inventory, prioritizing a multi-season bloom range with a variety of leaf textures and complementary flower colors.
Worried about design layout? Don’t be! We’ll label the plants in three categories: Matrix, Seasonal Interest and Structural. Start by arranging the structural plants 36-48” apart and then fill in the gaps with the matrix and the seasonal interest selections planting them 12-18” on center. If you need more advice or information, bring pictures of your site when you come to pick up the plants or email us and we’d be happy to offer layout recommendations.
